Beyond ethanol: India’s CV industry needs cleaner fuels

India has achieved 20% ethanol blending in petrol, but the success has largely bypassed diesel-powered vehicles. Heavy trucks account for a disproportionate share of road transport emissions, while alternatives such as CNG, LNG, hydrogen & isobutanol-diesel remain at varying stages of adoption. Experts say India needs a dedicated clean-fuel strategy for commercial vehicles alongside ethanol push.
