Bhakra Dam storage loss lower than BBMB estimate: IIT Ropar study

An IIT Ropar study has challenged BBMB estimates on silt accumulation and storage loss in the Gobind Sagar reservoir of Bhakra Dam. The study estimated overall capacity loss at 38%, compared with BBMB's 47%. It also pegged live storage loss at 13% and gross storage loss at 19%, lower than BBMB estimates of 19% and 26%, respectively. Experts stressed the need for better sediment management.
