Bill Gates-led clean tech fund Breakthrough Energy raises $1 billion

Clean tech venture capital fund Breakthrough Energy Ventures, led by Bill Gates, has raised $1 billion for a second round of investments which will be used to fund 40-50 startups. The fund previously backed 45 startups with initial $1 billion. Created in 2016, the principal investors of Breakthrough's first fund included Jeff Bezos, Mukesh Ambani, Richard Branson and Jack Ma.
