Bill mandating 60% Kannada on sign boards passed in Assembly
From now on, text on 60 percent of space on all signboards and nameboards in Karnataka will have to be in Kannada, according to a Bill the state Assembly passed on Thursday, 15 February. Non-compliance would lead to cancellation of the licences of businesses, the government said. This follows protests by pro-Kannada bodies targeting establishments with signages in other languages.
