The European Space Agency (ESA) has released what it claims is the most detailed 3D map of the Milky Way galaxy, pinpointing over a billion stars. The map also features the distances and motions across the sky for more than two million stars. The release is based on data collected by ESA's Gaia satellite from July 2014 to September 2015.
