The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) won the by-election to the Padampur Assembly seat in Odisha on Thursday. BJD candidate Barsha Singh Bariha bagged 1,20,807 votes after 23 rounds of counting, defeating the BJP's Pradip Purohit by 42,679 votes. The bypoll was necessitated after Barsha's father late MLA Bijay Ranjan Singh Bariha died in October this year.
