BJP crosses halfway mark in Assembly elections in Assam, early trends show

BJP has crossed halfway mark and is leading on 72 seats in Assembly polls in Assam, early trends showed. Congress and AIDUF+ are leading on 18 and two seats respectively. A total of 722 candidates, including 59 women, contested polls with Congress fielding most candidates at 99. The voting for 126 Assembly constituencies in Assam took place on April 9.
