Black balls found at Sydney beaches confirmed to be tar balls

Thousands of black, golf ball-sized balls that washed up on Coogee and Gordons Bay beaches in Sydney have been confirmed as tar balls. The city council confirmed the debris as hydrocarbon-based pollutants, the chief components of petroleum-based products. An oil slick was also spotted off the coast, potentially linked to the tar balls.
