BMW ends self-driving car project with Mercedes, to fire 6,000 employees

BMW and Mercedes-Benz are ending their partnership to develop next-generation automated driving technology, over a year after announcing the project. Describing the decision as "mutual and amicable", the automakers said they may renew the partnership in the future. Separately, BMW, which is based in Germany, acknowledged plans to fire 6,000 employees due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
