Bougainville, islands with a population of 3 lakh, to become world's newest nation

Bougainville, a group of South Pacific islands, is set to become the world's newest nation after almost 98% of people voted for independence from Papua New Guinea (PNG). The islands have a population of around 3 lakh. The final decision as to whether Bougainville will be allowed to form a new nation rests with the PNG parliament.
