Britannica, Merriam-Webster sue OpenAI for copying 1 lakh articles
Encyclopedia Britannica and its subsidiary Merriam-Webster (dictionary) sued OpenAI for "cannibalising" their web traffic and affecting their revenue by unlawfully copying 1 lakh of their online articles to train ChatGPT. The lawsuit alleged that ChatGPT produces "near-verbatim" copies of Britannica's content. Britannica also alleged that ChatGPT falsely attributes hallucinated content to them.
