British intelligence services reportedly monitored the Russian invasion of Ukraine by tracking the soldiers’ use of apps like the gay dating app Grindr and VKontakte, the Russian equivalent for Facebook. The intelligence services gave the information to Ukraine to help them amid the conflict. Russian President Vladimir Putin had banned Grindr in 2013, but the app is still used discreetly.
