Bulgaria receives Czar Samuel's remains from Greece
Bulgaria received the remains of medieval ruler Czar Samuel in Sofia with full state honors, including a military escort and 21-gun salute. Discovered in Greece 60 years ago, the remains were returned after decades of negotiations. In exchange, Greece receives 48 artifacts looted by Bulgarian troops during WWI. North Macedonia also claims Samuel as part of its heritage.
