Byculla zoo clears exchange to bring 4 Asiatic lions from Gujarat

Byculla zoo in Mumbai has approved a proposal to bring four Asiatic lions from Gujarat's Sakkarbaug Zoo under an animal exchange programme. The move received in-principle approval under Central Zoo Authority norms. In exchange, the Byculla zoo will transfer six Tufted Capuchin monkeys to Sakkarbaug Zoo to support conservation efforts. This move will bring back lions to Mumbai after 2014.
