The Union Cabinet approved a ₹37,500 crore scheme to promote surface coal and lignite gasification projects. The scheme targets gasification of 75 million tonnes of coal and lignite by 2030. The government expects investments of ₹2.5-3 lakh crore and around 50,000 jobs. The adoption of indigenous technologies is encouraged, with the goal of building a domestic coal gasification capability.
