The government approved eight railway multitracking projects worth ₹20,800 crore to boost capacity and ease congestion. Three projects covering West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, MP and Chhattisgarh add 656 km; five others cover Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana, adding 540 km. Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train's first 100-km Surat-Vapi section opens next year.
