California Guv signs bill limiting use of rap lyrics in criminal trials, 1st state to do so

California Governor Gavin Newsom on Friday signed a first-in-the-nation bill that limits the use of creative expression like rap lyrics as evidence in criminal cases to protect against bias. The bill covers all forms of creative expression and establishes a presumption that lyrics have minimal value as evidence. The bill was approved by California State Assembly and Senate in August.
