California to allow human composting burial method from 2027

California will allow an alternative burial method known as human composting from 2027, under a bill signed by Governor Gavin Newsom. The environment-friendly method involves human remains being placed inside a steel vessel filled with biodegradable materials, in which they naturally decompose over a 30-to-45-day period. The soil can then be returned to families or donated to conservation land.
