Can merchants split UPI payments to escape new charges?

NPCI has no immediate plans to introduce a special daily limit on repeated UPI payments to the same merchant, The Economic Times reported. From October 15, merchant UPI payments above ₹2,000 will attract a 0.4% MDR, capped at ₹300 for payments of ₹75,000 or more. This could allow merchants to split larger bills into smaller payments to avoid the charge.
