India's 17-year-old Grandmaster Gukesh D, who won FIDE Candidates 2024, lost two out of three matches on the opening day of Grand Chess Tour Superbet Rapid and Blitz 2024. Gukesh lost his opening two matches against Kirill Shevchenko and Nodirbek Abdusattorov. He recorded a draw in his final match of the day against Anish Giri.
