Cannibalistic fish, normally found 6,000 ft below ocean's surface, washes up on US beach

A 4-foot lancetfish washed up near the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at University of California, San Diego on Tuesday. The species inhabits the open ocean from the surface to about 6,000 feet deep. Lancetfish are cannibals that also feed on other fish and invertebrates. The fish can grow to more than 7 feet long and barely digest their food.
