Cauvery’s ‘Kaage Meenu’ scientifically identified as a new species

With the help of local fishermen, a group of researchers has discovered that the ‘Kaage Meenu’ in the Cauvery river basin of Karnataka, which was considered to be a local carp, is a separate species. The researchers said the discovery happened through continuous interactions with local fishing communities during exploratory surveys in the Cauvery River basin from 2018 to 2022.
