CBFC withdraws order denying certificate to 'Chardikala' after HC intervenes

CBFC withdrew two orders denying certification to the Punjabi film 'Chardikala' over its highly sensitive socio-political themes. The Punjab and Haryana High Court disposed of the appeals after noting that the CBFC's Regional Officer lacked the authority to pass the orders. The film, which premiered at Cannes Film Festival, is based on the life of activist Bibi Bimal Kaur Khalsa.
