CDC says drug-resistant germs cause 50,800 US deaths a year
The CDC, the US public health agency, estimates that drug-resistant bacteria and fungi cause 9.7 million infections and 50,800 deaths in the US each year. The agency listed Candida auris, drug-resistant gonorrhoea and two carbapenem-resistant bacteria as urgent threats. The CDC said its methods changed, so the figures should not be compared with earlier reports.
