Cells with extra DNA cause of ageing & diseases like cancer: Study

A study conducted by Japan's Hokkaido University found cells which carry extra DNA stop functioning normally and accumulate age-related damage or contribute to diseases like cancer. Researchers said before cells divide, they copy DNA to pass on to the new cell. However, sometimes despite copying DNA, they fail to split, leading to cells containing twice the normal amount of DNA.
