Centre approves ₹22,864-crore Silchar-Shillong highway project

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the construction of a 166-km-long four-lane access-controlled greenfield corridor highway between Assam's Silchar and Meghalaya's Shillong. The project, to be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM), is estimated to cost ₹22,864 crore. "The project will provide a major connectivity to Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram," Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said.
