Centre examining Meta's intermediary status, asks it to act on deepfakes: Report

The Centre is examining whether Meta still qualifies as an intermediary under Indian law if it determines what content users can see, PTI reported. The government reportedly also asked Meta to take corrective actions against deepfakes and other harmful AI-generated content on its platforms. The report added that the government is seeking legal opinion on further actions against Meta.
