Centre opposes legal recognition of same-sex marriage in affidavit before SC

The Centre filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court, opposing pleas seeking recognition of same-sex marriage. In its affidavit, the Centre stated living together of persons in same-sex relationships "cannot be compared to Indian family concept of a husband, a wife and children born out of the union". It added same-sex relationships and heterosexual relationships are "clearly distinct" classes.
