Centre releases statement amid controversy over new definition of Aravalli Hills
After SC said that a landform 100 metres or taller would constitute the Aravalli Hills, sparking a controversy over overmining concerns, the government said it is wrong to conclude that mining is permitted on landforms below 100 metres. It added that hills within 500 metres are also grouped into the Aravalli, ensuring that valleys and intervening slopes are also safeguarded.
