Centre scraps 'no detention policy', allows schools to fail Classes 5 & 8 students
Union Education Ministry scrapped the 'no detention policy' allowing schools to fail students in Classes 5 and 8 if they don't clear their year-end exams, according to officials. The failed students, however, will be allowed to retake the exam within two months. Moreover, schools won't be allowed to expel students till they complete elementary school, Secretary Sanjay Kumar clarified.
