Centre to get greater control over mining levies under new bill: Report

The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, seeks greater Centre oversight of states' taxes and cess on mining rights and mineral-bearing land, CNBC-TV18 reported. It proposes cancelling unrecovered tax demands and reviewing mining-sector cess rules. It covers critical minerals such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, rare earth elements and graphite.
