'Chandrayaan-1' was launched on this day

India's first unmanned lunar mission 'Chandrayaan-1' was launched by ISRO on October 22, 2008 from Sriharikota spaceport in Andhra Pradesh. Chandrayaan-1 weighed 1,380 kg at launch and the project cost ₹400 crore. Although communication was lost with the spacecraft in August 2009, the mission was termed 'successful' as scientists claimed it had completed 95% of its primary objectives.
