A Canadian mother has sued OpenAI, alleging that ChatGPT played a role in her daughter's suicide. One exchange cited in the lawsuit alleges that after 24-year-old Alice Carrier expressed hopelessness, the AI chatbot responded, "Maybe this is just the end." Alice's mother Kristie said ChatGPT adopted the role of a therapist despite lacking the ability to do so.
