Childhood abuse leaves a scar on the brain, study finds
Childhood abuse leaves a scar on the brain, a new neuroimaging study led by UCLA psychologists has found. Using MRI scans, researchers found associations between the severity of abuse and differences in cortical thickness, surface area and the volume of deeper brain regions. The effect was more pronounced in young women than in men or in children.
