Children using social media early may do worse in school: Study

Children who opened social media accounts at 11-12 years scored lower in maths and reading than those who joined a few years later, a study found. Researchers analysed data from over 5,000 Italian students and linked earlier social media use to poorer academic performance. By age 16, early users lagged behind by the equivalent of about six months of learning.
