Chimnabai II: Force behind abolition of purdah system in Baroda

Maharani Chimnabai-II, born in 1872, was a progressive advocate for women's rights. With the support of her husband, Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, she made a public appearance without purdah, leading to the abolition of the system. She authored a book "The Position of Women in Indian Life," and worked towards financial upliftment of women, particularly widows from impoverished backgrounds.
