China, Russia hold naval drill in waters claimed by Japan

Chinese and Russian naval forces conducted a joint live-fire exercise in waters that Japan claims as its exclusive economic zone. Japan lodged diplomatic protest with China, arguing that it "could've endangered navigation of nearby vessels." Meanwhile, China dismissed Japan's protest, calling it "completely groundless" and saying that "Japan has smeared lawful activities of other nations."
