China detained Muslim women for months for 'pre-crimes' such as using WhatsApp: Book

Chinese police detained several women from China's Muslim ethnic groups in a cell for months over accusations of cyber "pre-crimes", according to a new book by Simon Fraser University professor Darren Byler. One woman was detained for downloading a VPN to open her Gmail account, while another was arrested for downloading WhatsApp to talk to Kazakhstan coworkers, the book said.
