China is trying to take control of Panama Canal, claims Trump

US President Donald Trump claimed China is trying to take control of the Panama Canal and said he would not allow that to happen. He argued that US should never have surrendered control of the canal under the Torrijos-Carter Treaties, which transferred full control to Panama in 1999. “They made tremendous amounts of money. How stupid was that?” Trump said.
