China has refused to fund fresh projects in Pakistan due to lack of progress on the multi-billion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the country's failure to honour financial obligations. China is also concerned about safety of Chinese nationals working on CPEC projects as there have been terrorist attacks. CPEC connects China's Xinjiang to Pakistan's Gwadar port on Arabian Sea.
