China removes dogs from livestock list, classifies them as pets

In new draft guidelines published on Wednesday, China's agriculture ministry classified dogs as pets rather than livestock. "Along with the progress of human civilisation...dogs have been specialised to become companion animals, and are not considered to be livestock," the ministry said. China has banned the breeding, trading and consumption of wildlife amid the coronavirus outbreak.
