China conducted a trial for 18 months at a substation in Hefei, Anhui province using quantum technology to strengthen its power grid and prevent blackouts. The trial showed quantum sensors and simulations could rapidly detect and diagnose equipment defects and faults in power system. Quantum technology exploits the behaviour of individual atoms, which can exist in multiple states until measured.
