China-backed port in Peru to be 'S America-Asia gateway': Official

A China-backed port project in Peru is projected to become the 'gateway from South America to Asia', an official has said. The port of Chancay will offer a direct route to China, reducing the travel time for ships to 10 days. The port is part of China's Belt and Road Initiative and is estimated to cost $1.3 billion.
