China's 'artificial sun' sets new record, runs at 70 million Celsius for 1,056 secs

China's Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST), dubbed the 'artificial sun', set a new world record by running at a plasma temperature of 70 million Celsius for 1,056 seconds. EAST aims to create nuclear fusion like the Sun using deuterium from the sea to provide clean energy. Scientists say raw materials required for the 'artificial sun' are almost unlimited on earth.
