Chinese hackers pose as US AI experts in espionage campaign

Chinese hackers have been reportedly impersonating US AI experts, including Anthropic employee and ex-government officials, to target researchers and specialists in an espionage campaign, cybersecurity company Proofpoint said. The hackers dubbed "TA419" have allegedly sought passwords and emails from people at US and Japanese think tanks, universities, defence contractors and law firms since 2025.
