Chinese man fakes kidnapping to get out of gambling debt in S'pore

A Chinese man who faked his kidnapping in Singapore to free himself of his gambling debt has been charged. The 33-year-old man, Liu Changjian, staged his kidnapping to extort a ransom of 30,000 yuan (over ₹3 lakh) from his aunt in China. An investigation revealed that Liu had piled on a gambling debt of S$20,000-S$30,000 (₹12.4 lakh-₹18.6 lakh).
