Chinese universities cut 12,000 'obsolete' degree programmes amid AI boom

Chinese universities revoked or suspended 12,200 undergraduate degree programmes between 2021 and 2025 after determining they had become obsolete, local media reported. Additionally, more than 10,000 new courses were introduced to better align higher education with the AI age. The cuts majorly affected degrees in arts, humanities, foreign languages and management.
