Christian Bale is first non-American actor to play Batman

British actor Christian Bale is the first non-American actor to play the character Batman. The actor, who turned 43 on Monday, portrayed the superhero in 'Batman Begins' (2005), 'The Dark Knight' (2008), and 'The Dark Knight Rises' (2012). Bale, who lost about 30 kilograms for the film 'The Machinist', had to regain about 45 kilograms almost immediately to portray Batman.
