Author and journalist Samrat Choudhury's passport was impounded after an adverse police report claimed his "citizenship was not established." Choudhury said officials gave no reason on file for this finding. Born before 1987, he is a citizen by birth under Indian law and was not required to prove parentage. He stated many in West Bengal are facing similar issues.
