CJI calls for framework to engage retired judges in ADR to ease court burden

Speaking at a conference of retired judges, CJI Surya Kant called for a formal framework for ex-judges willing to serve in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), which involves settling disputes outside traditional court litigation. Suggesting a national registry, he said they could contribute as mediators, arbitrators and legal educators. He added that ADR mechanisms can reduce burden on courts.
